Podcasting is becoming a Billion Dollar Industry

September 4, 2019

If you haven’t heard about podcasting, then you’re a little late to the curve.

Commuters everywhere have traded in their regular radio and playlists for podcasts. According to entrepreneur.com, more than 24 percent of Americans over the age of 12 consume podcasts regularly. Statista predicts that by 2021, there will be over 100 million podcast listeners in the United States alone. Podcasting is definitely more than the next big thing and you don’t want to miss this.

So if you have been living under a rock, podcasting is an episodic series of digital audio which can be downloaded on demand for consumption. This platform has turned into the Netflix of the Radio Industry and only plans to get bigger. Over the years, podcasting has been gaining traction due to Steve Jobs being the first in implementing the podcast feature into iTunes but the platform didn’t truly take off until 2014 when NPR’s Serial Podcast took off and became popular. Even though podcasting has been around a little over a decade, the Serial Podcast set the standard and is what jutted the industry into overall expansion. Evolving it into what you see today.

With the potential to reach hundreds of millions of listeners, this platform has become a new target for advertisers. Thus giving podcasters a way to commit to podcasting full time. If managed correctly, the average podcaster can potentially make $40-60K a year. With the predictions of more listeners coming to the platform, that number is sure to rise.
